Life changes

Everybody knows that life is not a Hollywood movie - there are no guaranteed happily-ever-afters apart from God. The young people on this page have seen wonderful changes in their lives, and we want to see all of your stories here too!

But just be aware that everyone's change and everyone's miracles depend entirely on whether they choose to keep going down the path of faith in God, or whether they give up. These stories are to inspire you, and get you thinking about what you'd like to see happen in your own life. Keep watching this page as more and more of you will be popping up right here on this site!

Started drinking at the age of 7

I started drinking at the age of seven, and became addicted
to gambling for sports teams at the age of 12. I couldn't go a
weekend without alcohol, or a single day without gambling.

Seeing how my family didn't care about my addictions, I decided
to leave the Dominican Republic and move to the United States
with my stepmother at the age of fourteen. However, the constant
problems I started having with her soon caused all my hopes for
a better future to vanish.

That was when my stepmother, who had already been going to the church, decided to take me with her. For the first two years I wouldn't pay attention to what the pastors preached and I would always sit in the back. However, in seeing how my life seemed to be going nowhere, I decided to find out for myself if what the pastors preached was true indeed.

I started attending more meetings throughout the week, practiced everything that was preached, became a part of the YPG where I started taking part of special meetings for spiritual growth, and I started dedicating my time to evangelize. It wasn't long before my life started to change.

Today, all sadness, worries and loneliness are gone, I am now free from my addictions to alcohol and gambling, and my relationship with my stepmother has been restored. God brought meaning to my life and I am now dedicating it to reach out to others in need.
